A survey of 88,000 consumers in 26 countries around the world, found that Type of material used for packaging or packaging, plastic materials are the worst for the environment. The top 5 worst material are all made of plastic materials. Plastic bags are considered the worst material in the minds of consumers, followed by plastic bottles, plastic utensils such as plastic straws, plastic spoons, including soft plastics, such as plastic film used to wrap products (wrapped vegetable).
Moreover, 19% of consumers think that the plastic trays used for Ready Meal are also harmful to the environment as well, the survey also found that 93% of consumers are interested in packaging that can be reused or made from recycled materials, but since most environmental labels are often placed on the back of the packaging, it might be difficult to find on the package. So This makes only a small percentage of consumers who seriously look for it.
Of course, consumers all have different behaviors, so Kantar has divided the Eco-Segmentation into 3 groups.
1. Eco-Actives Shoppers who are very concerned about the environment and take action
2. Eco-Considerers Shoppers with environmental concerns but almost don’t take action
3. Eco-Dismissers Shoppers with little or no environmental concerns and don’t take action
Interestingly, the Eco-Actives segment has grown steadily up 1% from 2020 and 6% compared to 2019, while the Eco-Dismissers are declining. Half of the world's population will be becoming Eco-Actives by 2030. Although Eco-Actives may be a minority now, Kantar forecasts a doubling in size in six years will be half of the world's population by 2029.
